2022 General Election: PM and his cabinet overpaid – Kamikamica

This is how The People’s Alliance deputy party leader Manoa Kamikamica described the salaries and allowance of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet.
He said all ministers’ and assistant ministers’ salaries will be slashed and the PM’s $3000 a day allowance will be removed should they form government with the National Federation Party after the December 14 polls.
“From my perspective, the Prime Minister and all the ministers and assistant ministers they are all actually overpaid,” he said in an interview on Sashi Singh’s Talking Point which aired on Facebook last Sunday.
“Take it from me from a commercial perspective.
“When you come into office, you are dealing with public money, you are dealing with money from the taxpayers, so the salary that you take will not be a commercial level salary or a private sector salary, you will get a salary that is commensurate to service – and that is the fundamental difference.”
Mr Kamikamica said comments made by NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad where he suggested all allowances and salaries be slashed by one third was “a good starting point”.
“Things like the Prime Minister’s $3000 a day allowance for overnight travel particularly when he’s offshore – that will be removed.”
