Government and disaster authorities have a critical responsibility to improve regional response architecture to meet worsening threats and make regional responses more standardised, and available response capabilities more predictable and dependable, says Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu.

He made the comment while speaking at the ministerial forum during the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in Brisbane, Australia last month where he told DRR leaders that people deserved such assurances.

“The Government of Fiji is committed to ensure that the future generations of Fijians are protected.

“Our risk landscape is shifting beneath our feet.

“In keeping with the people-centered focus, the needs of our people must be the primary concern of all our efforts, including their wellbeing, safety and security, and their social and economic health,” he said.

The meeting was hailed a success.
