Fijian Drua: Sau out for 12 days

ROBUST Swire Shipping Fijian Drua winger Eroni Sau will sit out the match against the Highlanders at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin this weekend after failing a head assessment injury.

The “Sledgehammer” received a nasty head knock when tackling Reds forward Richie Asiata and failed a HIA during their 24-27 loss on Sunday. “He will be sitting out for the next 12 days.

Eroni is a very strong player, and for him to get knocked out like that shows that it was serious,” Byrne said. He says the Drua will need to improve on their ball handling against the Highlanders, which he deems as one of the areas they need to work on after their match with the Reds.

Byrne said he was proud of how hard his players have worked over the past 12 months in preparing for the 2023 season.

“Especially for some of the players who have to become professional rugby players just coming straight out of their villages where they did nothing for how many months before playing professional rugby. “I’m very happy about the work they’ve done, how hard they trained for the past 12 months.”

Byrne said his side was excited to play at home against the Rebels at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

“But first we will need to focus on our next game which is the Highlanders. We will be working on our weaknesses from our last game and just improving on them. “The boys are really looking forward to playing in Suva. Just look at our last game with the Crusaders, we really do have the best fans.”
