Waisale Vuidravuwalu watched from the stands of Stade de Bordeaux as his son and FIJI Water Flying Fijians captain Waisea Nayacalevu scored in the corner.
It was a proud moment for the Serua man as the try helped Fiji down a spirited Georgia side 17-12 yesterday.
It was also a special occasion as Vuidravuwalu celebrated his birthday — 16,000 miles from home.
“It was a proud moment to have dad up in the stands,” Nayacalevu said.
“I paid the airfares for dad and a cousin to come watch the world cup. It was just a birthday present for him.
“I gave him a shoutout in the interview in the field. I’ll go see him after at the hotel.”
Vuidravuwalu said he was happy to be able to be in France to witness Fiji advance closer to a quarter-final spot.
“Georgia was very strong today and I’m happy that we were able to get the win today,” he said.
“I want to thank the boys for the good game today. We now look forward to the next game in Toulouse.”
Fiji will play against Portugal on October 9.
A win will cement Fiji’s place in the quarter-finals.
