Rewa improved on its defence which resulted in its 8-1 win against Nasinu 1 in the first round of the Extra Supermarket Futsal IDC held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.
Coach Mohammed Shahrouf said Nasinu tested their defence but his boys stood strong.
“It was a big win but we have to go back to the drawing board and look at our downfalls,” he said.
“We will also have to work on our finishing because in the second half we struggled to put in goals.
“The team really played well and portrayed team work on the court.”
Two minutes in to the match, Rewa captain Kalisito Veikoka scored the opening goal.
The Delta Tigers were unstoppable, with Mohammed Fardeen, Tevita Waranaivalu and France Catarogo scoring a goal each to lead 4-0 in the first half.
Nasinu came in strong before the break with Alvish Ram who came out of the bench all pumped up to score a goal after beating two defenders.
In the second half, Nasinu again made a slow start and Rewa took advantage with Waranaivalu and Fardeen getting their second goals while Rishal Singh scored his first to extend their lead.
Nasinu coach Ashok Kumar said they were unprepared and had lost some of their key players.
“We hadn’t been training together and we just got together last week Monday with our last minute preparation,” he said.
“For some of these boys it was their first time to play futsal so they were struggling.”
Kumar said they would be prepared to face Ba today while Rewa takes a break.
Meanwhile, Tailevu Naitasiri and Lami played to a 2-all draw.
