Renowned local musician Laisa Vulakoro’s heart-felt plight to save her cancer-stricken grandson Kiyan Hunter has grabbed the attention of Fijians on social media.
In an emotional video on the family’s ‘Kiyan Cancer Fundraiser’ page on Facebook, she appealed to the public to help save the life of her six-year-old grandson who was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2018.
Described by his family members as a “sweet and brave boy”, the Year 2 Marist Brothers Primary School student completed chemotherapy two years ago but unfortunately after recent tests, doctors confirmed his cancer had returned.
“Kiyan loves soccer so when one day while playing, his legs just gave out. We rushed him to the hospital and it was then that he was first diagnosed with cancer,” Vulakoro explained.
“Kiyan desperately needs treatment in India because without it, doctors have given him only a few months to live.
“I am humbly appealing to the public to please help save the life of my grandson.”
Family members began sharing Vulakoro’s post to help with the family’s mission to reach the target amount of $75,000 to fund Kiyan’s treatment.
“We are appealing for any donations that will go towards his flight to India and the extensive chemotherapy treatments that he badly needs.
“Thank you kindly for any donations you can give to help keep this shy smile on Kiyan’s face.”
Members of the public who would like to donate can do so through MyCash to 7896778 and M-PAiSA 8036150.
For others willing to assist, Kiyan’s Gofundme account can be found on the ‘Kiyan’s Cancer Fundraiser’ Facebook page.
Vulakoro said those who wished to make direct deposits, could do so to Bank South Pacific (BSP) account name Sophia Elina Tabaleka, account number 82453670.
