The High Court in Labasa has ordered a man be paid $36,528.14 for injuries and loss of income after a workplace accident injured his left thumb.
Shaheen Dean was working for Waiqele Sawmill Ltd and injured himself while using a grinder.
He needed hospitalisation and an operation on his injured thumb.
The court found the company failed to provide duty of care and safety and ascertained Mr Dean was also liable for some negligence on his part.
