Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua has praised the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, for announcing there will be no police roadblocks on Fiji roads.
Mr Chew had said the roadblocks would only be erected if “there is an urgent need”.
“I think this is a wise decision by the acting commissioner of police that he has identified this,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“While the checkpoints are an essential element of police work, they shouldn’t be used indiscriminately to inconvenience the public.
“They are essential at certain times when there are certain outcomes to be achieved under police work,” he said.
“I think they have that option.
“I think while they achieve the police outcome, there can be a minimal possible inconvenience to the public,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
