NAP ensures better protection policies

AS two out of three women in are subjected to violence, the $1 million allocation for the National Action Plan (NAP) will ensure better protection policies, says Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Minister Lynda Tabuya.
She told Parliament the plan carried a promise to address gender-based violence and honoured the Coalition Government’s commitment to curb violence against women.
She said the Women Ministry with the ministries of education, youth and sports and iTaukei affairs would work to ensure the NAP was implemented successfully and “achieves gender equality
across the board”.
Ms Tabuya said part of the NAP was to form an advisory forum to initiate the development of a women’s economic empowerment plan, which was expected to be launched next
year.
“I’m happy to confirm that Women Ministry has been allocated a budget of $5.2m, an increase of $1m, shows a commitment from the Government towards gender equality,” she said.
