The Government needs to streamline its human resource processes to be able to hire good people who will fill the gaps for the many that have been offered lucrative offers abroad.
Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad said in Ba last week, following his tour of government project sites, that “we realised that we need to hire more people because we are losing people”.
“Over the last 18 months, we have lost some very good people, not only from the private sector but from within the civil service,” Prof Prasad said.
“And as a Government, we need to streamline our HR processes. We need to make sure we are able to create a system which is agile, which is responsive to the needs of different ministries so that we can hire people on merit in the shortest possible time.”
Prof Biman said a proper streamline process would ensure there were no gaps in terms of the human resources that would be needed to deliver certain projects on the ground.
“We also had a lot of very positive feedback from the people themselves. Contrary to the rumor and the malicious propaganda that we see sometimes on social media, the Government, as soon as it came into power, within a very short period of time, allocated $50 million to provide $200 per child from preschool right up to high school at the beginning of this year.
“In this budget, we have had to navigate a tight rope. We have a huge debt burden on us that has to be dealt with.”
The Finance Minister said while they had raised some revenue, they had also made sure that vulnerable citizens were catered for.
