The Fiji National Rugby League began a new chapter over the weekend with the establishment and naming of the pioneer executive board members of the Northern State rugby league to help further the sport on Vanua Levu.

The formation of the Northern State conference sees the Northern Division come under the parent body of the FNRL since its conception 30 years ago.

“It is a massive milestone and step forward for the north and brings forward many opportunities, said FNRL executive board member Taniela Vakamoce.

“The north has been eager to contribute to the sport of rugby league, but now finally they affiliated under the parent body, which will see more development come to the Northern Division.

“For the budding players that we have in abundance up north, they have sought to come to the mainland and join the existing eastern and western states for exposure.

“The Northern State now allows the talent up north to be home grown and developed hand in hand with the FNRL’s many pathways.”

Vakamoce said 10 members hadbeen elected to the board and were eager to develop the 13-man code on Vanua Levu.

The Northern State rugby league pioneer executive board members are Alan Tuinasoni, Maikeli Sauwaqa, Tomasi Ilikena, Kaushal Maharaj, Alipate Koli, Ashrit Pratap, Nimilote Naisorotabua, Atish Ram, Mosese Kedei and Nua Kaususu.
