Police receives shield

THE winner of the Mixed Basketball tournament, Police Tritons, have received their shield and prize money Fiji Basketball president and former commissioner of police Brig-Gen (Ret.) Iowane Naivalurua.

Naivalurua said the Police Tritons Basketball Club had embraced the Fiji Police Policy in policing Fiji through sports.

“I must congratulate you in taking up basketball as one of your sporting events and eventually you have become winners in this year’s tournament,” he said.

He said they looked forward to working with police in developing the sport further in other communities.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, who was also present at the presentation, thanked Basketball Fiji for taking time out to meet with the Fiji Police basketball officials.

“Rugby has always been our focus in Policing through Sports. Now basketball has been added to the mix and I thank all of those involved,” he said.

He said he looked forward to working with Basketball Fiji in developing the game in communities and also hoped that one day he would join the team in the basketball court.
