While many rugby fans will have their eyes glued to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua this weekend, Fiji Secondary School Rugby league marketing officer Laisiasa Corerega is encouraging fans to attend the South-East Zone Secondary School Rugby League semi-finals.

Corerega says fans can expect a very tough competition, especially in the Under-19 and Under-17 grades, where underdog schools Naitasiri Secondary and Mahatma Gandi have managed to make it through the last four.

“We witnessed really impressive upsets last weekend, with Marist Storms defeating Under-19 champions QVS Knights. Naitasiri Secondary School made it through to the semi-finals in the under-19 grade.”

Corerega says all grades will battle it out at the St Marcellin Primary School grounds in Suva.

“Whichever team plays a more discipline and fewer mistakes game can make it through to the zone finals.”

He also mentioned that the girls rugby league competition will kick-start this weekend at the St Marcellin grounds, where a total of nine teams will be competing.

“FNRL officials are going around conducting development clinics at MGM, BMS, and today at Wainimala Secondary School.”
