Wardens to defend title; PM Rabuka to grace tournament

Wardens Gold will defend the men’s category during the 36th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament which will kick off at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Friday.
The side defeated Police White 10-5 in the main cup final last year.
Penijamini Davetalevu scored the winning try for Wardens Gold in extra time to lift the title.
Nawaka 7s tournament media and marketing co-ordinator James Vunituraga said the pool draws would be done today.
He said Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka had been confirmed as the special guest for the finals.
“There will be no pre-sale of tickets,” Vunituraga said.
“It will be on sale at the gates during game day.
“There will be a beer parlour where fans can patronise themselves.
“The team managers’ meeting has been set for Thursday (tomorrow). The preparations for the tournament are going well.”
A total of 84 teams will participate in the tournament in four categories.
This includes 48 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, eight women’s teams and four Fellow Fijians teams.
Vunituraga said Army Green, Army Red, Raiwasa Taveuni, Police Blue, Dominion Brothers and Yamacia were the top seeds in the men’s category.
“Vuda Blues will lead the charge in the under-18 category,” he said.
“We have new co-sponsors like Shine Solution, Wailoaloa Beach Resort and Ricoh.
“The winner of the men’s category will receive $10,000 while the runner-up will get $5,000.”
Ticket prices: Day 1 $7 (adults), $5 (children); Day 2 $10 (adults), $5 (children).
